about us
Hi, we’re Marika and Roy — a couple lucky enough to call this beautiful corner of southern Germany home. Marika grew up in a small village on the edge of the Black Forest, while Roy, originally from London, moved here in 2001 and quickly fell in love with the landscape and relaxed way of life.
We’re continually inspired by the nature that surrounds us — Marika enjoys discovering new trails by foot or bike and Roy captures the scenery through his landscape paintings. We look forward to welcoming you and sharing this wonderful place with you. We hope you’ll fall in love with it just as we have.
We are delighted to welcome our guests to a beautifully restored 300-year-old winegrower’s house, just 250 meters from the lakeshore. This charming historic home has been lovingly renovated using natural, traditional building materials, offering an authentic blend of old-world character and modern comfort. Created to provide guests with a comfortable, welcoming, and relaxing environment.
Hosting is something we truly enjoy, as it gives us the chance to meet wonderful people from all over the world and share our love for this region.
Over the years, we’ve gathered plenty of local tips — from where to buy the best local produce, to scenic hiking routes, unforgettable cycling tours, and day trips full of discovery — all to help you make the most of your stay on the Bodensee
how we started
We fell in love with this 300-year-old house long before it ever became ours. Having known it for many years, we were thrilled when, one day, it finally came up for sale. Remarkably, it had remained in the same family for three centuries, though by 2010 it was in a very sad state. Still, we saw incredible potential in its unique position and historic charm.
Even with experience in house renovations, this project proved to be our biggest challenge yet, with a steep learning curve in working with historic building materials. Our dream was to restore the building using traditional methods and craftsmanship. We aimed to rely on materials that had stood the test of time and contained no harmful chemicals. We even replaced modern cement with lime for the outer walls and used clay to insulate the entire interior. Linseed oil paints were applied to the exterior timber frame, while the internal walls were finished with clay and lime paints—providing natural insulation and preserving the house’s authenticity.
After six years of dedication, the renovation was finally complete. The maisonette flat welcomed its first guests in 2014, and two years later the Hoch Parterre flat followed. Since then, we’ve had the joy of hosting guests from all over, many of whom return year after year.
The house and garden continue to evolve with each season, shaped by our guests’ suggestions and our ongoing commitment to improvement. Through it all, our core values remain unchanged: to offer a place of cleanliness, comfort, and heartfelt hospitality—all within a truly unique and historic atmosphere.
